The Career Education Standard is an important part of our Developing the Young Workforce strategy and recognises how and when young people learn about the World of Work.
There are a number of ways that departments can confidently promote and contribute towards the Career Education Standard:
Link classroom learning to the world of work and employment opportunities
Explicitly discuss skills development whenever appropriate
Engage with local labour market data and link to your subject area (slide 11)
Use My World of Work lesson inserts in your teaching
Develop employer links to enhance learning, including work experience opportunities
DYW Co-ordinators are Natalie Campbell, Esther Harrington and Rhona McKernan. All 3 are happy to work with teachers and departments on any aspect of the above.
Natalie: Bus Tech, Science and Creative
Rhona: Modern Languages, PE and Social
Esther: Maths, English and ASN
The two main aims of the CES are to improve employability skills and enable all young people to achieve a sustained and best positive destination. We track destinations 3 times in the 12 months after a young person leaves school - once in October and again in March and May. Post school, we work with a team at SDS to support school leavers until their 25th birthday.
